Topic: Mouse Ideas Posted: 22/August/2006 at 11:30pm |
My mouse has been slowing going tits up , first the LMB has been extra clicky, and now just the other dayI was flying adn it was super unresponsive, I had to turn up the sensitivty.
It is a MS laser Intellimouse Explorer 2.0a, about 4+ years old or more actually. So I want to get a new one.
Anyone know if I will see some major improvments in terms of increased sensitivy/aiming with a new mouse? Aka, shoudl I be excited in teh pants?
My budget is under $30-40, and it preferably should have a similar set-up as the MS one , with 4 buttons a scroll wheel in teh middle etc. I really wont pay mor ethan $40 so don't try and talk me into some uber mouse.

If you can bust out the little extra dough for the G5 i'd definitely recommend that, it was on a system i was fooling around with the other day and it really makes a difference...enter best daily kpd going from 250 to ~900
as far as the less expensive mice go ive always had good luck with microsoft

Yeah I think I can spare an extra $20 or so and get a nice one.
It's kinda funny I have been pretty hardcore gamer for awhile, and I never thought about getting a gaming mouse.

Well, razer is too expensive if you're on a budget. It's definitely worth it, though the benefit is more toward much faster first person shooters than planetside (think QIII or Painkiller).
You can't beat getting an MX518 for like 35 bucks on eBay, or getting an MX510 for 20-25(which is quite old, but great nonetheless). Honestly, if you're going from a low sensitivity mouse to a high one, you really don't need to get anything beyond 1600DPI, and most likely, nothing over even 800DPI (MX510).
Recently, Aqua went from a no name mouse to an mx518, and noticed a pretty good improvement in his abilities.
I think it'll definitely help, and will bring more enjoyment to your gaming.
As far as I know, some MX518 users within the outfit are Pad, Fayaz, Nak, and Aqua.
Haven't heard any complaints from them.
Keep in mind though, if you have larger hands, go for the MX series, if smaller, go for the Razer.

if you wanted a diamondback, this would be the one to get. i have a red one and a blue one around here and the blue one imo is way cooler. http://www.gogamer.com/cgi-bin/GoGamer.storefront/44ebeb2105025586273fd0fedee206ae/Product/View/000RAZDPCthat being said, having two of them already, i'd look at something else for my next mouse. the razer drivers can be a little sketchy and not always load correctly and sometimes windows fails to power the mouse on some boots/reboots. only thing you can do is reboot again, cause if you pull the plug and reinsert it, the driver blue screens. the mouse is kinda long too, not a problem on it's own, but they put the scroll wheel so far down near the end that if you like to drive with your fingertips instead of your wrist, the scrollwheel can be hard to reach, as well as the button stiff to push since they're so long and hinged at the back instead of the front. i have no complaints with sensitivity or tracking. it tracks perfectly. there's just some niggly things. also i like mice that function with default windows drivers, but the razer won't do that. it functions, but it's so fast even on the slowest setting, you have to use the rzer drivers. the on the fly sensitivity is nice. some nights i like it one notch faster, and others one notch slower. if i couldn't change it on the fly, i'd likely suffer along and play like crap in the process. the diamondback is a good $40 mouse, but certainly not the $65 they were asking when it first came out. but since it's the same shape and measurements as the copperhead with drivers from the same company, imo it wouldn't be worth $70 either.

What do you guys use for mouse pads? I think mine may be a bit clunky for gaming, but it is super comfy.
I h ave one of those gel wrist pad supported ones, and I think soomtimes I get lazy or something and rest my wrist there, so I don't get great "twitch" sometims, although when I focus in, I can usually elevate my hand. meh.

http://www.magicslice.com gourmet size!
In 1997 Microthin was founded as a company that produced thin, light
weight plastic mouse pads. In 1998 our first orders were shipped.
Microthin holds several U.S. patents on this process. In 1999 Microthin
was picked “best of the breed” by Apple Computer. In 2000 Microthin
became the world’s largest producer of mouse pads.
In 2004
Microthin expanded its product line to include Magic Slice™, Magic
Mark™, Magic View™ and Wow!Pad™. I go with the magic slice over their mousepad products because prefer the larger "pebble" on the magic slice vs their mouse pads, and they're larger.
