My mouse has been slowing going tits up , first the LMB has been extra clicky, and now just the other dayI was flying adn it was super unresponsive, I had to turn up the sensitivty.

It is a MS laser Intellimouse Explorer 2.0a, about 4+ years old or more actually. So I want to get a new one.

Anyone know if I will see some major improvments in terms of increased sensitivy/aiming with a new mouse? Aka, shoudl I be excited in teh pants?

My budget is under $30-40, and it preferably should have a similar set-up as the MS one , with 4 buttons a scroll wheel in teh middle etc. I really wont pay mor ethan $40 so don't try and talk me into some uber mouse.

If you can bust out the little extra dough for the G5 i'd definitely recommend that, it was on a system i was fooling around with the other day and it really makes a difference...enter best daily kpd going from 250 to ~900

as far as the less expensive mice go ive always had good luck with microsoft

Yeah I think I can spare an extra $20 or so and get a nice one.

It's kinda funny I have been pretty hardcore gamer for awhile, and I never thought about getting a gaming mouse.

Well, razer is too expensive if you're on a budget. It's definitely worth it, though the benefit is more toward much faster first person shooters than planetside (think QIII or Painkiller).

You can't beat getting an MX518 for like 35 bucks on eBay, or getting an MX510 for 20-25(which is quite old, but great nonetheless). Honestly, if you're going from a low sensitivity mouse to a high one, you really don't need to get anything beyond 1600DPI, and most likely, nothing over even 800DPI (MX510).

Recently, Aqua went from a no name mouse to an mx518, and noticed a pretty good improvement in his abilities.

I think it'll definitely help, and will bring more enjoyment to your gaming.

As far as I know, some MX518 users within the outfit are Pad, Fayaz, Nak, and Aqua.

Haven't heard any complaints from them.

Keep in mind though, if you have larger hands, go for the MX series, if smaller, go for the Razer.

if you wanted a diamondback, this would be the one to get. i have a red one and a blue one around here and the blue one imo is way cooler.

that being said, having two of them already, i'd look at something else for my next mouse. the razer drivers can be a little sketchy and not always load correctly and sometimes windows fails to power the mouse on some boots/reboots. only thing you can do is reboot again, cause if you pull the plug and reinsert it, the driver blue screens.

the mouse is kinda long too, not a problem on it's own, but they put the scroll wheel so far down near the end that if you like to drive with your fingertips instead of your wrist, the scrollwheel can be hard to reach, as well as the button stiff to push since they're so long and hinged at the back instead of the front.

i have no complaints with sensitivity or tracking. it tracks perfectly. there's just some niggly things.

also i like mice that function with default windows drivers, but the razer won't do that. it functions, but it's so fast even on the slowest setting, you have to use the rzer drivers.

the on the fly sensitivity is nice. some nights i like it one notch faster, and others one notch slower. if i couldn't change it on the fly, i'd likely suffer along and play like crap in the process.

the diamondback is a good $40 mouse, but certainly not the $65 they were asking when it first came out. but since it's the same shape and measurements as the copperhead with drivers from the same company, imo it wouldn't be worth $70 either.

What do you guys use for mouse pads? I think mine may be a bit clunky for gaming, but it is super comfy.

I h ave one of those gel wrist pad supported ones, and I think soomtimes I get lazy or something and rest my wrist there, so I don't get great "twitch" sometims, although when I focus in, I can usually elevate my hand. meh.

gourmet size!

In 1997 Microthin was founded as a company that produced thin, light weight plastic mouse pads. In 1998 our first orders were shipped. Microthin holds several U.S. patents on this process. In 1999 Microthin was picked “best of the breed” by Apple Computer. In 2000 Microthin became the world’s largest producer of mouse pads.
In 2004 Microthin expanded its product line to include Magic Slice™, Magic Mark™, Magic View™ and Wow!Pad™.

I go with the magic slice over their mousepad products because prefer the larger "pebble" on the magic slice vs their mouse pads, and they're larger.

btw I just ordered a MX518 from Amazon for $40 brand new, no s&H. Not bad.

We shall see what happens...

Anyone tried jacking the on the fly the sensitivty in a max unit?

i'm sure it would work fine. in bf2 i have my sens on the choppa's jacked up in the options for the transports, so when i hop in an attack chopper i use the on the fly sens to tone it down since they're so twitchy.

i'd think the max would be the same deal, but opposite.

as for the gel on the wrist thing, just get a wrist pad independent of the mouse pad.

I have a Logitech MX518 that I upgraded to from a MS Intellimouse Optical. At first I hated the feel of the mouse, purely because I was used to the MS mouse for 5+ years. I forced myself to continue using the Logitech and have grown to love it. It is now one of the most comfortable, and responsive mice I have ever used.

The sensitivity adjustment doesn't get used a whole lot by me in game. I maybe use it a couple times when mossy sniping to stabilize things a bit more. Overall it is a very good mouse that I would recommend to any gamer.

mx518 ftw.

The only thing that I wish that logitech would've done to this beast was to put some sort of display on the mouse to show you what sensitivity lvl you are at 0-25%-50%-100%

If it's anything like the G5 the sensitivity helps auto running but for some reason, most likely my aim, more shots seemed bugged than withit at normal. I think it can be oversensitive? I could make 5, full 360 degree rotations over a short distance with the jacked sensitivity might've been too much for p-side to handle

And Goffin, the sensivity display they put in their new gaming mice

ooh i hadn't looked at logitech's website in a while. the G3 looks like what i've been waiting for! simple, relatively small, light weight, symmetrical, and laser. $46 @ newegg

not bad

Nice, tybo.

I personally went from an MX518 to a Copperhead (though I had the G5, MX510 and Razer Viper beforehand). It was a great mouse, but I just felt it was a bit too much for my hands, even though my hands are enormous.

Also, for the mousepad, you really don't need to get an expensive one. I bought the Razer mousepad a while back, and as good as it was, it wasn't much different than my $10 'gaming' mousepad from walmart.

So I gave it to a friend.

I have the G5 and love it, comes with the lil weights you can add or remove which is nice. For PS, the 6 on the fly adjustable sensitivities are awesome, especially if you have max or gun alot. You can set the 6 settings to any dpi you choose. 100-2000
