Subject: Recommendations for 19" LCD?

Looking for a 19" LCD display with DVI input. The display will be used for gaming, so a decent refresh rate is a must, and it must be able to display at least 1280x1024.

Any recommendations?

Dell 1905FP Ultrasharp, I have one and <3 it. Native 1280x1024, all the goodies, USB ports on the side, you can rotate the screen 90 degrees to have a portrait view.

Samsung 940B's are very nice too. Really bright, pretty much the exact same thing, they just look a little different.

I've seen most people going for the Dell 20"ers...   Sometimes they can dip below 400 with coupon codes...

Although, LCD's have a delay no matter how fast the refresh rate is...  Not a ghosting type delay, but an actual delay before something is displayed on the screen..

Just to keep you informed.

Yeah the delay is inevitable.

How bad is it though? Do you notice anything like this playing Planetside Fayaz? And is this only a problem with Dell monitors?

I'm using a 19" ViewSonic G90fb CRT right now. I was going to get an LCD to have more space on my actual desk.

Reading about this lag/twitch I am now thinking twice about actually getting once... since all I really do is FPS games.

I've been looking a lot lately for a decent CRT monitor, but it seems everyone has gone to LCD..  I prefer CRT, mainly because I know that the price of LCD's is 50% profit...  But that's me, always fighting the man...

I'm sure the lag would be something that you would eventually get used to, since Fayaz still can kick ass.

These are the two LCDs I am considering:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116375 - ViewSonic VX922 19" LCD 2ms Response Time  ~$350

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824002285 - NEC LCD1970GX-BK 19" LCD 8ms Response Time  ~$370

Leaning more towards the NEC.

I've never noticed enough lag from a LCD vs a CRT that would justify the loss of desktop space, personally.  Especially for planetside.  I've played most FPS out there as well, never really been an issue.

I have the Samsung 930BF, which has the 4ms res time.

75Hz @ 1280x1024 (refresh seems low for lcd but is actually high for lcd but works fine cause the pixels don't 'flash' the same way crt do.)

I have no complaints about this lcd panel other than I wish it were bigger. Color, contrast and sharpness all absolutely SMOKE the Sony 21" 500PS I was using which when was new, was more than twice the price of this lcd. But coming down from 21" to 19" isn't easy. The actual viewable image size is only about half inch smaller but it's surprising how noticable it is at close range. But that's meh for you.

I haven't seen any ghosting or lcd motion blur or anything like that. The only thing i'd say is different than crt that i have seen is more screen tearing. On a crt i always always had vsync off and used a 85-90Hz refresh for everything and never noticed any tearing. But with the lcd down at 75Hz and maybe the difference in technology I do notice tearing (not the monitors fault), but now I leave vsync on. What does that mean? With vsync on you'll never get more than 75 fps in a game using a 75Hz refresh rate. IMO no big deal. I'll take a constant 75 over tearing.

I'd love to get like a 37" 1080p lcd tv and use that but still feelin the hit of the new box i put together. ;)

I use the Samsung 930B, I prefer it to my old CRT. Very Happy with it.

I am running the Dell 24" widescreen and its great with all the screen space but you do notice a blur.

The response time on it is probably worse then anything your looking at and I have def gotten used to it.  I used to play on a CRT and when I switched I completely noticed the blurs turning quickly in the air and coming around corners fast, but you adjust and do not notice it as much.  Although the other day I was playing on the CRT and felt like I was playing better and my aim was more precise.  With a lower response you won't feel it as much though.

Mine is the 21" wide Gateway which has a 8ms response and 1000:1 contrast ratio.
