It's essentially and external hard drive enclosure, but that will play back media files you put on it to your home theater setup, including ripped dvd's etc. it also does hd upscaling up to 1080i, and for around $200. while it doesn't come with a hard drive, that means you can put any size in it you want, and put in something bigger later.

there's another one called the al tech mediagate mg35 which has ethernet built in but it doesn't seem near as refined as this box.

this company is supposed to have one out by the end of the summer that has ethernet and wifi built in.

just wondered if anyone around here had tried something like this? sounds pretty great to me.

Yep, we used one at my old job.  Not that exact one but it was the same thing.  What we ended up doing was getting this.  I dont know if they call can but ours could use that to connect to the network

It worked great, I used it to hold commonly used graphics that needed to be pulled up on the fly for tv production.  I wanted to get one for the house but my tv is close enough to my computer I can just run it that way.

i alraidy got mine.. its called the 360 :p

Altho, you need the version of windows that has Windows media center on it, witch is a total rip off, they should hand that program out for free. but yeah, i can copy stuff over to the Xbox, and play it from there. or i can just play it Directly from the computer, like i do with my music, and it will replace in game music :).

but if you are really heavy on wanting to have HUGE movies completly protable, you might want to get one of those, the Hardrive on the 360 is only 15 gigs i beleive. more then enough for all the patches and Demo's you could want, as long as you Delete the sucky ones.
