It's called the CPL mouse fix.

Download -> Install.

i have acceleration off in xp but in bf2142 i could do with 'mouse smoothing', do you think this would help at all towards that end?

I wouldn't use it (smoothing). The CPL mouse fix changes the settings in registry to turn off all windows software, so basically your mouse is moving on by itself, without any aids from windows. Most professional gamers do not use smoothing. In fact, i don't know any that do.

Is this worth the download?

Very much, will feel strange at first, but it feels like you're actually taking control of the mouse.

By the way, nice sig homer.

My name is Fayaz and I approve Interpol's download.

Far quicker than going in the registry. As aforementionned, takes a little getting used to, but you cant live without it after a while.

I do a lot of mouse clicking and dragging at work, and people are always impressed with how fast I can accurately move the mouse, use menus, drag windows, without using a single keyboard shortcut...

Without Windows interference, the movements are linear.. there's a 1:1 relation between physical displacement of the pointing device and the cursor on-screen. If you get good enough, you'll just look at where you want your mouse to be and the cursor will follow near-instantly.. for gaming, that's a plus as well.

I approve of the above statement, and some of the statements to follow, and I would also like to take partial credit of their creation.

I pretty much only like accel off during Planetside.  Other times I need my sensitivity low but also need fast movement like in CS:S or UT so its kinda a must to have it on.

The CPL Mouse Fix actually makes the mouse acceleration curve in Windows become linear which allows you no mouse acceleration. There is another mouse fix as well, Anir's Mouse Acceleration Fix which completely disables this curve-- They each do the same function in the end, however. May I also recommend the USB Mouse Refresh Rate switcher; it increases the polling rate of your mouse (How fast your mouse cursor updates). Normal USB mice update at 120hz while PS/2 update varies from 80hz to 200hz. The USB Mouse Refresh Rate Switcher allows polling rates up to 1000hz (1ms). http://www.overclock.net/faqs/73418-how-improve-mouse-response-accuracy-changing.html . I would advise you to use at your own risk, I was able to get my Logitech mx518 to work at a 1000hz refresh rate in Windows XP SP2. USB devices should be rated to use polling rates at 1000hz by the way.

I would advise you to build a new computer-- Just get the parts from newegg.com and you'll be all set. You get a lot of bang for your buck and building one yourself has never been simpler; you only need a screwdriver

And some bandages!

99% of people who build a PC from scratch will get minor cuts from the tower case, the motherboard and other component edges, installing drives, etc. Lots of sharp stuff in new hardware.

I have posted some links to mouse acceleration fixes on http://www.obsol33t.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5&mforum=obsol33t - Obsol33t's forums . They are hosted on my FreeWebs account and have been scanned for viruses using the latest version of NOD32's signature database.
