oh, btw fayaz.. you might be interested in this..

my friend and i are currently writing a script to generate every single possible combination of ASCII chars by length n, calculate the MD5 codes for each, and then find if there are any MD5 collisions. we're planning on setting this up on three sets multiple "super" computers on our campus to be able to generate the outcome quicker through division of labor and having each set do one of the three tasks.

just nerd for thought

Hehe awesome. I remember in my first year I wrote a few scripts to crawl the entire University network (I managed to "acquire" the central DNS records and hosts file) and recursively get every single machine's hostname, mac address, IP and relative location. Every single wireless laptop, residence desktop, laboratory PC, office/administration PC, PDA, router, server connected... 57,683 in total. That's expected though, 75,296 undergrads (part/full time), grads, staff, profs, admins, employees, etc. (combined, as of 2003).

I wanted to crunch the data and generate some graphical hierarchical model of the network, but never got around to doing it.

Oh hehe far from it. You could probably do it if you plan it well and spread out the information mining over several weeks, keep renewing the IP... no I did it with department approval as an end-year project.
