If I have to choose between console or PC versions, PC for sure. And PC gaming does offer that online/MMO/superior first-person shooters aspect, which consoles are just scratching right now. But there are some console-only games that are amazing. I'd never *ever* play a sports title on PC, just garbage.. console? sure, maybe. There'll never be another Goldeneye, Starfox or Mario 64.
Similarly, some games *just work* on a PSP/DS/GBA, but are just plain retarded playing via emulator on a PC. Racing games, I do like em (own all NFS titles on PC.. sshh, that's a secret), but things like Burnout or Ridge Racer work nicely on consoles. As for flight sims / space sims / aerial shoot-em-ups, consoles have tried and some have succeeded, but again, PC.
As for the hop-and-bop RPG games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and all those others with mini-games, they work nicely on consoles too.. I wouldnt even bother with them for the PC (but Tomb Raider / Prince of Persia series are very good for the PC), when more immersive engaging RPG-actions exist. And there are some really really good/fun ones for consoles.
I'm a PC gamer at heart, but a pure PC gamer will miss out on a lot of good brainless fun if they stick to just that. PC games are less repetitive, I find, offer a lot more depth, and you can find yourself playing a title several times, whereas that's just unheard of on a console. Some international console imports are just amazing too, really good story lines and character development, should you not get a seizure from the colors and graphics.
True, BUT as we all know Mr. Torrent doesn't work for Xbox games, unless you continue to haxxor and get a mod chip or something else. A bit cumbersome.
I feel exacltly the same way about sports game and the PC. Using those crappy litle Gravis control pads is just a shame compared to my PS2.
I will agree, you do end up paying more for the PC in the long run, with the video card every 2-3 years, plus proccesor upgrade. While each console lasts 4-6 years with new games coming out. And now, since most games are platueing(sp) the graphics and gameplay are pretty nice to play for years to come (PS 2 MGS for example, always will be nice, until we get into full view VR).
Xbox with all it's online stuff and downloadable deals is pretty nifty, but an Xbox 360 to a PC, is like a cell phone to your pocket PC. Or an Airsoft gun to a real gun. Or a robot dog to a real dog.
Err.......
