X1900XTX vs. 7900GTX ?

Is this basically like Coke vs. Pepsi?  The difference in configuring the exact same rig in every respects except the video card comes out to ATI version being $24 more.
 
I know some prefer Nvidia and others ATI...but since I'm building a Core 2Duo rig should I be concerned that ATI was bought by AMD?

this reply will be no help.
I had run with ATi for like 4 years. And have recently switched to nvidia.
I find most Ati drivers to be slightly harder to find then nvidia.
