Football players may be strong, but they are far from tough. They can lift weights and hit hard, but then they go back to the sidelines where they are pampered with water and attention. How can you compare that to playing 45 minute halfs, only being substituted due to an injury that renders you unable to play, and being battered over and over?
It's like saying that a boxer is tougher than a street fighter. While the street fighter fights till a knock out or a submission, the boxer gets to retreat to his corner and be pampered by his supporters.
If you don't think that rugby has hard hits, just do a google of it and see what you can come up with. Keep in mind that they are wearing no protective gear.
Also, I take it you played football at some point? Ever try Rugby?

If you want to see an actually "hands on" sport with some true hits, watch rugby, not the sissies that wear body armor and pretend to be tough. Football is like going into war with a full-body bullet proof vest and claiming you are godlike when you dont get wounded. Also, do rugy guys have 300+ lb guys running 4.7 40s colliding with each other? yes.. without the kevlar padding.

no. But they dont wear pads, or helmets, their game is very fast passed. They dont take a break after something happens. And it requires alot of skill.

Name - Jonah Lomu
Height - 6'5"
Weight - 19st (265 pounds)
Fastest 100 metres - 10.8 seconds
The guy was a tank, literally ran through anything. Even after heart problems, and a few operations, he STILL continues to play rugby.

I don't think a great deal of you have ever played (American) football in a competitive environment. Perhaps you are absolutely correct about Rugby being more tough in your backyard, but when the freaks get selected from the genetic pool, pads and helmets are just as required as one is required to wear a helmet on a motorcycle. However, we're really gauging two kinds of toughness here. Football is more kin to sprinting as Rugby is to long distance running I suppose, so it is somewhat like comparing apples and oranges. I refuse to compare the two, as it is utterly stupid (I feel the same way about discussions re: soccer versus american football). Fat, strong people with pads on, you say? I wonder what this guy would do in the Rugby without pads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlifiH_mkn8

Yeah when Talyor takes guys down, its like watching a lion take down a gazelle.
Besides it takes more balls to do this then to play Rugby and Football.

QFT.
Could you imagine smacking your balls against the rail going down the middle of the stairs!? Just thinking about it makes my eyes water.
