So it's been about 2 1/2 years since I've upgraded, and recent power supply problems in my current system have got me looking around at piecing together a new system.

This is what I'm looking at so far...

HIS H487F512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI Express x16 (2.0v) Video Card Retail
Remove $249.99 $249.99

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor 2.4GHz, 1066FSB, LGA775, 8MB cache Retail ***Free Shipping***
Remove $186.50 $186.50

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R Intel P45 Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo/Pentium/Pentium Extreme Socket 775 1600 MHz PC2-9600 (DDR2-1200) ATX Motherboard Retail
Remove $119.99 $119.99

OCZ OCZ2P10664GK 4GB PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066) DDR2 Memory Retail ***Free Shipping***
Remove $102.99 $102.99

Corsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power Supply Retail ***Free Shipping***
Remove $134.99 $134.99

SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB SATA 7200 RPM 32MB Hard Drive Bulk
Remove $119.99 $119.99

TOTAL: $926.72 shipped (There is also $95 in mail-in rebates between the components - Final price: $831.72)

I already have a Lian-Li case I am going to re-use in the new system, dvd-rw etc. The price is under $1k, which I like... but I just don't know if I should pull the trigger and make the purchase. It would require me moving from XP to Vista also... which I'm not too sure about.

Any thoughts?

ALTERNATIVES:

PSU #1: ENERMAX INFINITI EIN720AWT 720W ATX12V/ EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Retail ($199 w/ $70 mail-in rebate)

Any thoughts on swapping out certain components for others?

seasonic was going to be my next power supply, just haven't needed one yet. i've read really great things about them. enermax also makes good psu's. corsair would be too new to the game for me to use them when the field is crowded with companies already making really good stuff.

secondly all things being equal, the nvidia cards have the physx built on yeah? i know there's not a ton of games out there right now which use it but if it's on every new nvidia card i'm sure it won't be too long before most games will take advantage of it. i just don't see much point in buying ati at this point.

last go round i built two systems, one of them had corsair ram and the other with ocz. the corsair died and was warranty replaced, the ocz has never missed a beat. good choice on the ocz.

lastly, what pc games are you looking to play which require upgrading? the pc games market has been pretty bleak (compared to consoles).

Crysis is a sweet game I just picked it up.

System looks good...I when trying to fit everything in a budget I usually go more processor power then graphics card power because its easier up grading vid card then processor imo.

Fid...xbox..?

why the samsung drive instead of seagate or wd? i've never had a samsung drive but i thought they bought the ibm hd line after the deskstar debacle. hmm, maybe it was hitachi.
